That cat could be very unhappy in a few seconds.

Do you know how to play chopsticks or as it’s known in Asia, knife-and-fork?

Oh that's cool! I skipped the one here but probably should've gone. Some days I kind of miss it.

Yes.
I should make the students play that as a warmup next year to demonstrate how much I love writing exercises that they never bother to learn.

Me too, I miss marching band more than football or wrestling by a big margin.

Marimbas are awesome. Also, your music stand setup is pretty sweet.

Cookin’ up some Keiko Abe? Four-mallet marimba is easily one of the most mind-blowing things I learned about in music school. Anytime I hear some pleeb mouth off, “Percussion is so easy, anyone could learn it, it’s not like horn blah blah blah,” I roll my eyes and fight the urge to drop a vibraphone on their head.
I’m sure your marimba is happy you have A/C now, as well, as I would assume that those aren’t synthetic bars.

Cool! One of the best shows I ever saw was the Charlie Hunter Trio with a badass Marimba player in a very small venue.
The need to practice is why I sometimes wish I played a quieter and more compact instrument, it’s hard to get any time behind a kit these days.

I don’t miss marching band at all, except for when we drove the band out onto the field on the drum cadence at football games that I otherwise couldn’t care less about. We started the march out in a tunnel, it was great. The only reason I was in the marching band is because it was a condition of being in the jazz band.

I loved marching band, we were highly competitive so winning made the work worth it. I loved jazz band too, but they were completely different atmospheres. Band never had the idiot “bros” I had to deal with in football.

Yay! Marimba! I played in the concert band of my high school for years back in teh day, so I used to play these myself...only have a drum kit at home now though.

I’m supposed to be learning a duet to play with one of my students. It isn’t technically difficult but it makes no sense without the second part and I’m making it WAY harder than it needs to be (mentally).
And it’s funny you say that. I teach an after school percussion group and we recruit pretty much anyone willing to try. I end up with lots of string orchestra kids, some horn players, and a few choir students. Very few percussion kids. I think they’re the ones most afraid of actually learning to play!

Definitely hear you there. I mean, there used to be a couch where the marimba is. Now I have a/c downstairs but literally nowhere to relax and enjoy it. There's a beach chair just out of frame that I've been using for now.

I have a drum kit that I don't really know how to play! Once I started playing mallets I kind of got stuck there.

I’m going to assume you like the picture shelf and aren’t just mocking the music taped to the wall! I need to string some wire under the shelf so I can clip a second row of pages on.

Way late to the party here...
That’s an absolutely beautiful instrument.
I’ve played some marimba and other mallet percussion in the past, but that was a long time ago. I did spend a significant portion of my life playing drums in bands, enough to call it a part-time job. Honestly, I didn’t make that much money, and probably out-spent what I earned in gear.

Thank you. I didn’t buy it myself but I definitely feel honored to get the chance to play it (and occasionally teach lessons on it). I’ve been playing for years but teaching is really where my talents are - I hate an audience!
